The Artist Series premiered in April and May of 2015 on\u00a0SyracuseGuru.com<\/a><\/p>\n

The first post featured a\u00a0Q & A with the filmmaker<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2014, three short video profiles were filmed and edited for the Artist Series, a project of filmmaker Courtney Rile.\u00a0 The goals for the project were to develop outside of the box storytelling strategies utilizing sound and editing techniques while exploring the art-making process.\u00a0 Filming brought a lens into the nonlinear world of the studios and workspaces of artists.\u00a0 In the act of creating, there is rarely a straight line between A and B.\u00a0 Therefore, it was the perfect environment to experiment with storytelling techniques.\u00a0 There are many talented artists in the Central New York area.\u00a0 For them, this project serves as a source for inspiration for creating art.\u00a0 This project also serves as an example and reminder of the variety of artists that can be found in Syracuse, Oswego, and the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

The Artist Series highlights painter and writer\u00a0Barry Grose<\/a>, photographer and designer\u00a0Colleen Woolpert<\/a>, and dancer and choreographer\u00a0Cheryl Wilkins-Mitchell<\/a>.\u00a0 It was filmed by Michael Barletta, Mike Swatt and Courtney Rile and edited by Courtney Rile.<\/p>\n

Courtney Rile is a media maker and arts entrepreneur living and working in Syracuse, NY.\u00a0 Rile has been a professional video editor for thirteen years and has a degree in Video Art from Syracuse University (2004). \u00a0In addition to filmmaking, Rile has curated visual and media art exhibits, operated galleries and launched arts initiatives, giving her a unique perspective to make films about artists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
